Fall crafts are so cozy, especially when they involve pumpkins! When we made these Pumpkin Paper Plate crafts, the kids were excited to paint their plates bright orange and pick the “perfect” green leaf shape. Once they were done, we hung them around the kitchen, and it instantly felt more festive and full of fall spirit!
I love that this craft is so easy to set up, but still keeps little hands busy and imaginations flowing. With simple supplies like paint, paper, and ribbon, kids can create their very own paper plate pumpkins to display around the house or even their classroom! It’s the kind of project that doesn’t need to be perfect to be wonderful. Each pumpkin simply has its own charm!
This craft is a great way to celebrate the season while encouraging creativity and fine motor skills. The bonus? It’s budget-friendly and easy enough for a cozy afternoon craft session at home!
Supplies Needed

- Large white paper plate
- Orange craft paint
- Brown construction paper
- Green construction paper
- Green ribbon
- Glue (or hot glue gun)
- Paint brush
- Scissors
- Optional: Strong Tape
How to Make
- Paint the paper plate orange. Set aside to dry. Once dry, apply another coat if desired. Set aside to dry completely.

2. Cut a brown stem out of the brown construction paper.

3. Cut a green leaf out of the green construction paper.

4. Turn the paper plate over to the back and glue the stem on. Allow to dry.

5. Turn the paper plate over to the front and glue the leaf next to the stem.

6. Cut the ribbon into a 4-6 inch piece. Turn the paper plate over and glue the ribbon to the back. Once dry, you can use a strong piece of tape to make sure the ribbon stays secure on the paper plate.

7. Use the scissor technique to curl the ribbon. Display the pumpkin paper plate craft after!

Helpful Tips
Use paper plates with a slight ridge, as they hold the paint better and dry more evenly! It helps the color to last well while also being faster in finishing up. Alternatively, if you’re using thinner plates, place a piece of newspaper or cardboard underneath to prevent warping as they dry!
Why Kids Love This Craft
- They get to paint, cut, and glue! These are three favorite kid craft activities in one!
- Every pumpkin turns out a little different, so no two crafts are alike.
- It’s quick to make and fun to display!
- Perfect for decorating windows, doors, or classroom bulletin boards.
- It’s a great way to get into the fall spirit while practicing creativity!
