The Story Egg Review – Teach Kids About the Easter Story!

My family and I are Christian, so holidays like Easter take on special meaning for us as we consider the role Jesus played on Resurrection Sunday. So I was very excited to get the chance to try out The Story Egg, a book and activity that helps teach kids about Easter!

The Story Egg takes kids through each day of Holy Week, starting on Palm Sunday and leading up to Easter Sunday. The activity uses seven stacked, hand-crafted wooden nesting Eggs, each with its own corresponding story in an illustrated hardcover book. You can open an egg each day with your children or read the whole thing at once!

The Eggs cover the following days of Holy Week:

  • Palm Sunday
  • House of Prayer Monday
  • Teacher of Love Tuesday
  • Give and Take Wednesday
  • Last Supper Thursday
  • Good Friday
  • Holy Saturday
  • Easter Sunday

Note that there is no corresponding egg for Easter Sunday – that’s because when you open the seventh egg (representing the stone that was rolled in front of the tomb), it’s empty!

We started with our daily readings last night at dinner and my kids (ages 8, 6, 4, and 3) were really interested. I can tell this is going to be a family tradition for years to come!
