Loving This Recipe for Chinese Peppered Chicken

Chinese Peppered Chicken

I love Chinese food, and I have never really tried making it myself. So I was searching the wonderful world of Pinterest and came across a recipe for chinese peppered chicken and thought I would give it a go! Frugal Mom Eh! had this recipe on her site and as I was reading it I really debated on making it or not.

One of the ingredients was oyster sauce, one I am not a fan of oysters at all.. and then she said don’t be scared it doesn’t taste like oysters! I was like whew, that was a relief right there!! So as I read on and she said don’t worry it won’t taste fishy, and it has a nice mix between saline-sweet flavor I thought okay, I am officially on board!!

I like to step out of my comfort zone and attempt new things, and that is the only way to know if I will enjoy it or not right?! I have to say Pinterest has been a wonderful way to try out new food recipes. I have some new favorites that I found on there, and I am over joyed!! We are not a family that has the same meals over and over again, I like a variety and to step outside of the every night dinner menu!!

Now Enough Jibber-Jabber and On To The Recipe…

This recipe is adapted from Frugal Mom Eh! Some of the items I didn’t have on hand so I improvised, and I still think it turned out pretty darn good!!

Ingredients:

1 lb boneless skinless chicken cut into little bite size pieces ( I used tenderloins)
1/2 cup oyster sauce
2 Tbs soy sauce (divided)
1/2 Tbs black pepper
1 tsp white vinegar
1 tsp honey
1 tsp agave nectar
2 tbs oil to fry chicken in ( I used canola but said you can use Peanut, Sesame as well)
2 green bell peppers cut up
1 yellow onion

Rice – I made this on the side in my rice cooker. I used Jasmine Rice and followed the instructions on package! This is totally optional. We just ate it with rice under it ;-)!!
Peppered Chicken
How to Make:
First off you will want to cut up your chicken and marinate it in 1 tbs of the soy sauce! I put mine in a bowl and set it on the counter so it could be at room temperature and marinate for 20-30 minutes.
Then in another small bowl you will want to mix the oyster sauce, 1 tbs soy sauce, pepper, vinegar, honey, and agave together. Let that set as well for around 20-30 minutes.
Next I started the oil in a pan and allowed it to heat up for a few minutes. Then I put the chicken in it and cooked it until it was no longer pink in the middle.
While chicken was cooking I cut up my onion and peppers and had them ready to toss in to the pan when the chicken was done cooking. I allowed the veggies to cook with the chicken for about 3-4 minutes. You will want the veggies to still have some crunch to them so it won’t take long at all.
Once veggies were at the texture I wanted I tossed in the oyster sauce mix I made up earlier. You will let this cook for about 1 minute. Then take off heat and serve with rice if you would like!
And your done! A nice and easy meal at home, that brings a new chicken recipe to try out!! I hope you all enjoy it like I have!! I was so happy to find a new chicken creation to throw into the mix from time to time :-)!!

This looks so amazing. I really only eat chicken when it comes to meat, so I am always looking for new recipes.
