Well, as talked about here is my part two of the California Wine Club review!! If you missed November’s post you can view it here! It was really fun receiving two bottles of win in November, and then again in December! I just recently started trying out new wines here and there. I have never been a big drinker, and I thought it could be fun for my husband, Adam and I to try out wines together. It was pretty fun, sharing our thoughts on them and discussing which we liked better and why.
For December, the www.cawineclub.com sent me the Daniel Gehrs Merlot and the Chenin Blanc! They both have won some medals, which made it exciting to taste winning wines!
Merlot – This merlot has a smooth and juicy, fruit-driven flavor. It had a nice aroma to it, that had a hing of black cherries, raspberries and war, tanned leather with hints of cranberry and bluberry.
On the bottle it says it goes well with most meat dishes or served by itself, plus it can age 4-5 years in the bottle. I think that this wine tasted pretty good, I tend to lean more towards wines that taste like this. I find that they are not as harsh as some wines can be.
Chenin Blanc – This is a dry white wine, focusing on the fruit of the grape, exhibiting ripe pear, quince, wild flowers, and golden honey in its youth. Honestly, I have never had a wine like this one. It shows that it will mellow with a year or two of age into a complex elixir that retains it refreshing vitality while gaining roundness and viscosity. I am not super knowledgeable to what all that means, ha so I won’t pretend to know! I will say it is for sure a dry wine, that for me had a bit of a tang to it. Almost tart-ish I would describe. Overall it was pretty good, but I preferred the Merlot out of the two.
If a wine is too strong I have to mix it with a little Sprite or 7up, it makes it taste amazing and lightens the flavors. But, like I said I am still rather new to trying out wines so I am still in search of my favorites. So I really enjoyed being able to try out some new wines, and fine a few new found loves in them! I was very happy with the wines I received, and think this is a great club to be a member of!
Host a get together, and try out some new wines, or save them for a hostess gift. Or if you enjoy wine, join and start trying out new wines, that you may have not came across on your own!
