Where to Buy Affordable Pregnancy Tests

Where to Buy Affordable Pregnancy TestsI thought I would share where to buy affordable pregnancy tests! I know if you are trying every single month and taking a test it can add up quickly, or if you want some on hand in case you wonder if you are, it is nice to have some on hand that didn’t cost an arm and a leg! I can’t stand having to pay so much money for 1 test, so I like to shop online and have them on hand, in case I have a month where I think I could be pregnant!

Now first off let me clear  the air, is their a difference between a cheaper test to more expensive. Every pregnancy test brand is different, some have a better ability to pick up a lower level of HCG than other tests, so their is a slight difference. I have used $1 tests in the past and it picked up that I was pregnant, so they do work!

Where to Shop for Cheaper Pregnancy Tests

Dollar Store/Dollar General: So, to buy really cheap test, the first place is to hit up your local Dollar Store or Dollar General! They have test normally for just $1, the downfall if your store is like ours, you have to ask for them to get them for you, as they are behind the counter!

I never wanted people to know I was buying a test, as we live in a small town, so I ordered test online a lot!

HCG Pregnancy Strips

AccuMed® 25 Pregnancy (HCG) Test Strips – This is the tests that I bought, when we were trying the first time, I wanted to make sure I had enough on hand. I would take one each month, and when I found out I was actually pregnant I took more than one, as I thought that would make me believe it more (excessive I know) haha. These worked good, you can’t really use these days before your period though, they are to be used after your first missed day. They are very affordable, and I do recommend these! You can buy these for a pack of 25 in what you would pay for a pack of 3 name brand in store!

Buying Pregnancy Tests That Are Affordable

First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test, 3 tests: I found buying these on Amazon I got the best deal. I have Amazon Prime so I get two day free shipping, which is nice. It is private so no one knows your buying them and they get delivered right to your door! These are more expensive than the little sticks, but it is a 6-Day Sooner test, so you can test before your period is missed which I love! I bought these with my pregnancy with Clay and sure enough I was pregnant! They are a great test,, and I love the nice handle, it makes using this test a lot easier! You can also buy these at your local stores, I just find sometimes shopping online you get a better price!

Those are the best deals on test, and you know now buying a cheaper test you can still get the same results!

Salt Wasting Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) Diagnoses For Clay

Being Diagnosed with Salt Wasting CAHClay

As you all know I just finally got on to share my announcement that Clay had finally arrived on 10/20/15!  Since then we have had a long road of ups and downs, and I wanted to share it with you guys!

While we were in the hospital they did their State Blood Work test. We didn’t think anything of it, and ended up getting discharged and sent home. Well life went pretty good at first and then around day 6, he started acting pretty sick. He seemed a bit lethargic, throwing up, having diarrhea and just didn’t seem to be himself. So, late one night I woke Adam up and we headed in to the emergency room to get him checked out.

While in the ER they drew blood as he had pretty good jaundice and they were worried that the level might be to high. So, they checked him over and said follow up with pediatrician the next day. So we did, and the doctor wanted to do a full blood work check to see what might be going on.

Later that day we got home, and got a call that said we needed to get Clay to the hospital right away, that Wichita was sending an airplane to get him and take him to Wesley in the NICU. His state blood work showed that he had Salt Wasting Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH). it is a genetic disorder. What it is, his adrenal glands are larger than what they should be. He doesn’t produce the right amount of sodium or potassium and such for his body, which can throw everything off. If left untreated it can lead to a coma, cardiac arrest and even death. It is a very serious illness, and only happens to 1 in 15,000 babies. For Clay to have gotten this, Adam and I both have to be carriers of this or have the condition ourselves. We are in the process of getting tested now so we can learn more about where it came from and so on.

That is the scariest day of my whole life, watching them poke around to get an IV started, they ended up having to do it in his head. Not knowing anything about this condition was petrifying. He was 1 week old when he was taken and put in the NICU. He was in adrenal crisis, which is life threatening. Luckily they were able to act quick and they got his sodium and potassium levels evened out.

Clay will have to be on medicine for the rest of his life, and we have to watch him really closely. If he gets sick we have to stress dose him to keep him from going into crisis. We always stress dose him with medicine for immunizations, if he gets hurt, sick, and so on. It is a really big learning curve and have been pretty emotional stressful, but hopefully in time things will get easier and we will learn more about this, and be able to take good care of him and keep him healthy!

We can’t thank the Wesley NICU enough for saving our son’s life! They did everything they could to get him healthy as soon as they could. All the nurses and doctors were amazing, and we are forever grateful! Thank you for all the prayers and love you have showed up along the way. If you follow me on social media you know about his condition already as I have shared about it.

If you are wanting to learn more, you can buy this book:CONGENITAL ADRENAL HYPERPLASIA: A Parents’ Guide and it is highly recommended by other parents! I bought it and found it to be very helpful!

How To Stay Calm For First Time Expecting Moms

How to Stay Calm for First Time Expecting Moms

When I grabbed the pregnancy test and stepped into the bathroom at 5 am to see if it was going to be positive, I just had this feeling it would say yes. So, I waited and I noticed two lines starting to appear, I looked out into the kitchen to Adam and said, “Oh my God, I am pregnant!?” He just looked at me like I was joking, and came to look. He saw the lines and said well it isn’t a very dark line so I bet you are not. Little did he know when you see even the faintest line, you are! It got darker as the minutes clicked on!

I will never forget that moment, I was filled with like a million emotions all at once and began to cry! I was so full of fear, worry, excitement, amazement, shock, and everything else in between! We lost our first baby to a miscarriage, so my first fear was please don’t let that happen again! It is such a surreal moment when you first learn you are pregnant!

Since then I have had some ups and downs along the way, but I will be 36 weeks tomorrow! We are so close to the end, and we can’t wait to meet Clay! He is going to be such a blessing to our family, and change our lives for the good in so many ways!

With that said, the past few months have been so hard and overwhelming. I have had morning sickness the whole time, it has let up here and there but never went away. My emotions have been like a yo-yo, highs and lows and they bounce back and forth often! I have had many moments where I cry cause I am hurting or for no reason just scared. I have had moments where I get butterflies thinking of who Clay will look like, his personality and such!

I thought it might be nice to share some tips on how to stay calm for first time expecting moms! These are a few things that I have been told or done myself to try and relax.

Don’t Believe What You Read Online: This is the first one because it is the biggest thing you need to skip! You will have so many aches and pains and if you run to the internet and read these horror stories it lets your mind wonder and you will instantly become anxious! It is okay to read some stuff, but don’t always believe it. Or I should say don’t assume that is going to happen to you. Most of the time, people who have the worst experiences are the first to run and share their experience, and those who had no trouble don’t take the time to share their story. So, be cautious if you google, don’t obsess over everything you read!

Read Books About What To Expect or Download Apps on Phone: I think not knowing that the twinge in your side is totally normally can have you on edge non-stop. Most moms don’t realize when you are first pregnant and throughout it, you cramp, have little aches and pains and most of the time they are all just the normal pains that go along with growing that baby! So grabbing a book that can give you insight on what to expect will help. Each week will come with new symptoms and milestones for your little baby! They also have apps you can download for free on your phone to give you tips and such for the week you are on! The Baby Center My Pregnancy App is my favorite.

Talk to Family or Friends: Find a person or two, who is very supportive and can give you positive affirmations along the way. If you don’t have anyone, the baby boards on some apps is another great place to get support. Tell them when you are anxious, and allow them to help calm you down. You don’t have to keep it all bundled inside, stressing over it. Worrying so much isn’t good, and sharing how you feel will help relax you when you are told it is totally normal to have those fears and worries! Reaching out and talking to your doctor or nurse is also great, if you have questions! That way you get a true answer for the issue you are having.

Remember Many Many Many Women Have Had Babies Over the Years: This is a huge one, so many women out there have had babies over the years. They survived it and so will you! We all are a first time mom sometime, and you go through a lot of unknown moments but in the end you make it through! Some women have multiple babies, and in that, it should help boost our confidence that this is do-able and we will overcome and bring our babies into the world and start a new chapter in our books!

Those are my top tips for new moms and how not to stress so much! They have helped me a lot. Granted I still have freak out moments, but I try to calm myself down with these tips! Hope this helps you!

If you have had a baby before, what is a tip you would share with expectant moms on how to stay calm during the 9 months?!

First Trimester Must Haves For Expecting Mamas!

First Trimester Must Haves

I never thought I would be doing a post like this! As some of you know if you follow my blog we are expecting a little boy October 22nd! I am well past the first trimester and I thought it would be fun to share a First Trimester Must Haves for all you expecting mama’s out there!

Your body goes through so many changes, and some of the things I had no idea would happen. I am here to share the things that I had that helped me survive the first trimester! I will say that I was super sick from morning sickness. I was sick from morning till night, and barely slept through the nights. It was rough. I pray you are not like me, and don’t have lots of morning sickness!

These items are things that I found to help me through, but I know that each one of us is different, so what worked for me may not be what works for you. I hope though that these items find comfort in your pregnancy journey!

Prenatals Vitamins: This one is a basic one, but it is important. Their are so many kinds of prenatal vitamins to choose from, you can get some from your doctor or over the counter. They have chewy gummies to pill form. I had issues with some brands so I ended up eating two Flinstones vitamins for kids, and they were a lot calmer on my tummy.

Maternity Pillow: Oh boy, this one has helped me a lot. I had some aches and pains, and struggled with getting comfortable. I got a Beautyrest Body Positioner Pillow for Expecting Moms. This is so nice, but they do have so many styles and brands to choose from! This is the one I got that worked for me. I am still using it every night!

Yoga Pants and Sweat Pants: Okay they don’t exactly have to be yoga pants, but something light and that doesn’t have a button or zipper. They slip on so nice and are comfy! I also have some sweat pants I rock around the house! I bought these Yoga Pants at Target, they have a high waist that you can lift above your belly or fold it down. They are not maternity style, but they are still working well for me and I am almost in my third trimester! You will find you can bloat pretty quickly when you are first pregnant, and not having stuff pressing on your tummy really helps a lot.

Ginger Ale & Snacks: Okay, I did a whole post on things that can help with morning sickness. One major one for me was drinking Ginger Ale and eating often. I would snack on cheese or protein items. I know some people swear by crackers, I personally couldn’t tolerate any kind of crackers. So check out the list of all the things to try out, from peppermint tea to sour candies and all the things in between!

Antacids: This is another must have. I didn’t have a ton of heart burn but I did get a sour upset tummy a ton. I know that there are different brands to choose from, my doctor recommends TUMS as they are safe. These are nice to have if you are feeling a little sick. I even put some in a ziploc bag and put them in my purse so I had them when I was out and about!

Good Body Lotion & Stretch Mark Creams: I found I had really dry skin when I first got pregnant. I really recommend investing in a good body lotion that will bring nutrients to your skin! As for stretch mark creams they recommend using it before you see stretch marks. There are like 9,000 ones to choose from, it is crazy! Everyone will recommend a different one! But I just read the reviews on some to help with picking which will work best with my skin type and such! Bio-oil is the one that has been recommended the most by everyone I know.

Netflix or Amazon Streaming: Haha okay okay, this one isn’t a complete must have but it sure has been a HUGE lifesaver to help me. Like I said I was either miserable sick or just exhausted all the time. I have Netflix and Amazon Instant Video so I can stream movies and shows from my tv. I watched a lot of tv series along with movies from each. You do not need both of them, we just already have them! I would lounge on couch and binge watch tv series like crazy, oh wait I still do!

Bra Extenders: Okay your boobs will grow really fast and big! I had no idea they would pop out that quick, so I invested in some bra extenders . I did go out and buy a few new bras but the crazy and sad thing is, now I am already having issues with the new ones being to tight. With the bra extenders they will help you be able to use your old bras as long as you can, and then you can buy bigger sized bra’s later in your pregnancy so you aren’t like me and waste money on new bras that you outgrow so fast!

So those are a few items I would recommend getting for your first trimester! They helped me quite a bit, and were items I will recommend to expecting mama’s!

Beautyrest Studio Memory Foam Body Positioner from Simmons Kids – A MUST for All Mom’s To Be!

I received this Beautyrest Studio Memory Foam Body Positioner from Simmons Kids as a promotional item. This is not a sponsored review. All opinions are 100% my own.

Beautyrest Studio Memory Foam Body Positioner from Simmons Kids

Okay all you expectant mother’s out there, here is an item I fully recommend having while you are pregnant! I have had this Beautyrest Studio Memory Foam Body Positioner from Simmons Kids, for a few weeks now, and I can’t tell you the difference it has made!

I am 25 weeks pregnant today, I have experienced the normal aches and pains you get from your growing belly! I have had round ligament pains, hip troubles, and just being uncomfortable! I got this body positioner and it came at the perfect time. I had been struggling with hurting and now I sleep SO much better at night!

This is meant to be used for all stages of pregnancy, which is perfect! It is memory foam which adds a whole new level of comfort, and it helps reduce pressure points. It features extra support for the troubled area, such as the lumbar, tummy, feet and knees!

Beautyrest Studio Memory Foam Body Positioner from Simmons Kids

I love to sleep with this because it really helps get me comfy, and I can sleep better through the night. I like to place it between my legs to help take pressure off my hips. It has a memory foam pillow at the top for support for your head, which is super soft, and at the bottom for your feet or knees! The middle part is easy to shape and move to the position that feels best for you! After playing around with it, I have found numerous positions that worked for me at giving me some extra comfort and relief! It comes with a comfy soft quilted knit cover, that you can take off and wash when needed as well!

Another thing I will mention is it is a thinner style, so it doesn’t take up a ton of room! We have a queen size bed, and I can use this and Adam still has his own room to sleep through the night. It doesn’t take up a ton of room, in case you were worried about that. I was hesitant to buy one at first because I thought it might be to bulky, but that is not the case at all!

Beautyrest Studio Memory Foam Body Positioner from Simmons KidsOnce again I would really recommend getting one of these for yourself or buy as a gift for an expectant mom! It is worth the investment for sure. It has let me sleep better through the night, and I even lay on the couch at night watching tv, curled up with this! Being pregnant can be a bit uncomfortable, especially as your baby bump grows, and sometimes having a little relief makes life so much easier! To me not hurting all the times helps pass the days a bit faster!

If you are interested in getting this Beautyrest Studio Memory Foam Body Positioner from Simmons Kids, you can order online today! I hope it can bring you the comfort and relief like it has for me!
