There are so many different ways you can boil an egg. I always thought there was one way, and that was the way my dad taught me! Then Pinterest comes along, and there are so many unique ways to do it. But, I have’t tried them yet, I still stick to what my dad always told me.
I add my eggs to cold water, making sure it covers the egg completely. If you toss a dash of salt in the water, when you are boiling eggs it will make peeling the eggs a lot easier!
Then allow it to come to a boil, and boil for ten minutes. Then transfer the eggs to ice water and then once cooled enough go ahead and peel them!
Plus you can add a teaspoon of oil (any kind works) to the water it will keep it from boiling over. As you can see in the picture it was close to boiling and the oil droplets sit at the top of the water, and it makes it impossible for it to boil over. Which is so nice.
My mother in law was doing that with her potatoes and I asked what she was doing and she told me. You can do this for anything your boiling!! I use canola oil, and it doesn’t add any flavor to the items from what I can tell!
I like to cook up some eggs and have them on hand for a snack. I just did some and I forgot how much I love just a hard boiled egg! Plus with Easter coming I thought it would be a great time to share. I am sure a lot of you might already know these tips, but I thought some may not!
Plus: Joanna a reader shared using baking soda also helps to make peeling eggs easier!! Thanks girl :-D!!
Do you have any other cooking tips? I love finding out about new little things that make cooking easier :-)!

I know about this salt trick but usually forget to do it! I remember when I’m grumbling over my poor egg that won’t peel! I need to remember this!

What a great tip! I might be the only person in the world that messes up hard boiled eggs…repeatedly!

Sometimes I still over-cook them if I don’t set a timer or pay attention LOL.. I multi-task and sometimes lose my train of thought haaha!

When making hard boiled eggs to keep peeled till you need them, you can add a splash of vinegar to minimize the chance of the shells breaking.
Kelsey says
Oh nice I have never heard that Kathleen!!

Genius! I always follow Martha Stewart’s suggestion and bring my eggs to a boil then letting them sit off the heat for 12 minutes. I even set a timer. I’m going to try this trick too!
Kelsey says
Ya I saw that as a way to cook them Danielle, haven’t tried it, but thought about it :-)!

Peeling eggs is the worst. Thanks for the great tip. I also boil mine with a towel so they don’t crack while boiling. I think I saw it on Rachel Ray or Great Eats. It helps tremendously.

One of my least favorite things to do. Always looking for an easier way.

I haven’t tried salt. I have however used a tablespoon of white vinegar..helps a lot in case you are making egg salad or potato salad and have an egg crack during boiling, it helps keep the egg from spilling out into your water 🙂 Thanks for the tip, going to try salt next time.
Kelsey says
OH neat Jennifer, never heard of vinegar!! I will def. give that a go!!
