Make Your Own Buttermilk Substitute Using 2 Ingredients!!

Who Knew it Was So Easy to Make Your Own Buttermilk?!

Make Your Own Buttermilk with Just 2 Ingredients

I never buy buttermilk, because I rarely use it. But every now and then I come upon a recipe that calls for buttermilk and then I’m in a pickle because I don’t have any.

Rather than run to the store for that one ingredient, I found a way to make your own buttermilk – and it is super easy and super fast!! Plus you will probably have the 2 ingredients in your house already!

Buttermilk Fried Chicken

Unless you find yourself cooking from scratch often or making a lot of buttermilk biscuits or fried chicken (which is REALLY good soaked in buttermilk before frying), it probably doesn’t pay to buy buttermilk by the carton.

Cooking from scratch is a great way to be economical in the kitchen, but if you end up throwing away extra ingredients you don’t use, than that “economy” part goes right out the window!

Being able to easily make it when you need it is a great alternative! Not only is it a lot less  expensive, but you also avoid the waste of throwing out the rest of your carton of unused buttermilk when it spoils.

In my opinion, being easy to make AND saving me money in the long run is a great combination!

Make Your Own Buttermilk

Making this buttermilk alternative is super easy and, like I mentioned, you probably have both of the ingredients waiting for you in your kitchen.

The next time you need it to make your cinnamon rolls, cake, biscuits, cole slaw, fried chicken or any other recipe that calls for buttermilk, you’ll be ready! Be sure to check out all our other recipes using buttermilk below too!
