Use Baking Soda to Take the Bitterness out of Tea

Take the bitterness out of tea

When the weather starts to get warm, I begin to crave iced tea. Thankfully here in Kansas the weather is starting to seem like Spring/Summer time! We are having lots of warmer weather days, and it just feels amazing to enjoy the warmth of the sun! Hopefully you are enjoying the warmer weather as well!

We have an iced tea maker, and it works great at making tea. Normally I would make sun-tea but since we got our iced tea maker I just use that all the time. For me I prefer a nice and mild tea rather than one that has bitterness to it. So I did some research and finally found a tip that has been working great for us.

Now this recipe is for my iced tea maker, now if you don’t have one, you can adjust it to fit your size of tea you are making!

Our Iced Tea Maker holds 3 quarts. Now I like to add a little sugar to mine to give it a little sweet but not overpowering. So you can make yours to fit your taste buds!

So how do you take the bitterness out of tea?! Adding baking soda helps to cut out the bitterness of the tea. It works great and I couldn’t be happier with making tea at home for a lot less than buying tea all the time.

You put your tea bags and water in as normal and before you start to brew your tea. You will add 1/4 of a teaspoon of baking soda into the 3-quart pitcher. If you want to add a little sugar, add it in as well, and then start to brew. Start to stir your tea as it comes out to mix in the baking soda in as well as sugar.

Once tea stops brewing fill the rest of the pitcher up with cold water and top with ice. Serve and enjoy! Hope you enjoy this savvy tip, if you don’t know it already.
