Importance of Eating Together as a Family

Eating together as a family has many benefits for both child development and family cohesiveness.

I received the Mickey seat and dishes courtesy of First Year as a promotional item. This is not a sponsored review. All opinions are 100% my own.

Did you know they have done studies on The Importance of Eating Together as a Family?! I saw a news feature on the topic quite a few years ago, before I was a mom, and I was pretty shocked at what they were saying.

One included point was; Over the past 15 years researchers have confirmed what parents have known for a long time: sharing a family meal is good for the spirit, the brain and the health of all family members.

Studies have also found that the kids have lower rates of substance abuse, teen pregnancy and depression, as well as higher grade-point averages and self-esteem when families eat together.

When I heard all that and more, I knew if and when we had a child it would be very important to eat meals together!

I want Clay to have all the chances of a good life as he can! I want him to feel loved and see us as a family unit who has those breaks in the day where we eat together and chat about our days!

Granted he is only 9 months now but I don’t think it is ever to early to start eating together!

First Years Disney Baby Mickey Mouse Helping Hands Feeding & Activity Seat

We got this First Years Disney Baby Mickey Mouse Helping Hands Feeding & Activity Seat and it makes meal times more fun for Clay. It latches onto your table chair, so they are right there at the table.

Our chairs are a little low, so it didn’t quite meet to be level with the table, but that is okay as it still works great! It comes with the Mickey Mouse toys that suction to the eating area so they can play before or after eating, if you want!

The hand can hold a snack or a cup, and the other is a roller ball that has little toys that make noise when it spins! It is really neat. Clay loves playing and eating in the chair, I think it makes him feel like a big boy, sitting in a regular chair like us!

You can adjust the height of the seat, in case you were wondering. You can adjust how close it latches in the front for your child, which is nice! It is a really cool chair and they say fun colors really keep children entertained!

The adjustable play and feeding tray offers 3 positions, and the 3-point harness ensures baby stays put even at their wriggliest.  The seat attaches to most chairs, and height is adjustable for perfect placement at the table so the whole family can enjoy a meal together.

We also got the  The First Years Disney Baby Mickey Mouse feeding set. I love the plate, it has little spots for food to go, and Clay loves it. We don’t set his plates down for him to reach yet, as he will tip it over and spill it all.

It is also great if you can introduce a variety of foods to your child. Color is really fun, and they say to eat colors of the rainbow everyday, so we try to give him a variety! Children learn eating habits from their parents, so it is up to us to show them how to eat healthy!

I love that chair and feeding set! When my kids were little we had a chair for them to sit in also, but it wasn’t cute like the Mickey Mouse one. I really like that plate with the separate sections being the ears. It looks like a fun way for kids to enjoy their dinner. I agree it’s important to eat dinner together. My kids are 20, 17, and 9 and we all still eat together(as their college class schedule allows).
