Where to Buy Affordable Pregnancy Tests

Where to Buy Affordable Pregnancy TestsI thought I would share where to buy affordable pregnancy tests! I know if you are trying every single month and taking a test it can add up quickly, or if you want some on hand in case you wonder if you are, it is nice to have some on hand that didn’t cost an arm and a leg! I can’t stand having to pay so much money for 1 test, so I like to shop online and have them on hand, in case I have a month where I think I could be pregnant!

Now first off let me clear  the air, is their a difference between a cheaper test to more expensive. Every pregnancy test brand is different, some have a better ability to pick up a lower level of HCG than other tests, so their is a slight difference. I have used $1 tests in the past and it picked up that I was pregnant, so they do work!

Where to Shop for Cheaper Pregnancy Tests

Dollar Store/Dollar General: So, to buy really cheap test, the first place is to hit up your local Dollar Store or Dollar General! They have test normally for just $1, the downfall if your store is like ours, you have to ask for them to get them for you, as they are behind the counter!

I never wanted people to know I was buying a test, as we live in a small town, so I ordered test online a lot!

HCG Pregnancy Strips

AccuMed® 25 Pregnancy (HCG) Test Strips – This is the tests that I bought, when we were trying the first time, I wanted to make sure I had enough on hand. I would take one each month, and when I found out I was actually pregnant I took more than one, as I thought that would make me believe it more (excessive I know) haha. These worked good, you can’t really use these days before your period though, they are to be used after your first missed day. They are very affordable, and I do recommend these! You can buy these for a pack of 25 in what you would pay for a pack of 3 name brand in store!

Buying Pregnancy Tests That Are Affordable

First Response Early Result Pregnancy Test, 3 tests: I found buying these on Amazon I got the best deal. I have Amazon Prime so I get two day free shipping, which is nice. It is private so no one knows your buying them and they get delivered right to your door! These are more expensive than the little sticks, but it is a 6-Day Sooner test, so you can test before your period is missed which I love! I bought these with my pregnancy with Clay and sure enough I was pregnant! They are a great test,, and I love the nice handle, it makes using this test a lot easier! You can also buy these at your local stores, I just find sometimes shopping online you get a better price!

Those are the best deals on test, and you know now buying a cheaper test you can still get the same results!

Salt Wasting Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH) Diagnoses For Clay

Being Diagnosed with Salt Wasting CAHClay

As you all know I just finally got on to share my announcement that Clay had finally arrived on 10/20/15!  Since then we have had a long road of ups and downs, and I wanted to share it with you guys!

While we were in the hospital they did their State Blood Work test. We didn’t think anything of it, and ended up getting discharged and sent home. Well life went pretty good at first and then around day 6, he started acting pretty sick. He seemed a bit lethargic, throwing up, having diarrhea and just didn’t seem to be himself. So, late one night I woke Adam up and we headed in to the emergency room to get him checked out.

While in the ER they drew blood as he had pretty good jaundice and they were worried that the level might be to high. So, they checked him over and said follow up with pediatrician the next day. So we did, and the doctor wanted to do a full blood work check to see what might be going on.

Later that day we got home, and got a call that said we needed to get Clay to the hospital right away, that Wichita was sending an airplane to get him and take him to Wesley in the NICU. His state blood work showed that he had Salt Wasting Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH). it is a genetic disorder. What it is, his adrenal glands are larger than what they should be. He doesn’t produce the right amount of sodium or potassium and such for his body, which can throw everything off. If left untreated it can lead to a coma, cardiac arrest and even death. It is a very serious illness, and only happens to 1 in 15,000 babies. For Clay to have gotten this, Adam and I both have to be carriers of this or have the condition ourselves. We are in the process of getting tested now so we can learn more about where it came from and so on.

That is the scariest day of my whole life, watching them poke around to get an IV started, they ended up having to do it in his head. Not knowing anything about this condition was petrifying. He was 1 week old when he was taken and put in the NICU. He was in adrenal crisis, which is life threatening. Luckily they were able to act quick and they got his sodium and potassium levels evened out.

Clay will have to be on medicine for the rest of his life, and we have to watch him really closely. If he gets sick we have to stress dose him to keep him from going into crisis. We always stress dose him with medicine for immunizations, if he gets hurt, sick, and so on. It is a really big learning curve and have been pretty emotional stressful, but hopefully in time things will get easier and we will learn more about this, and be able to take good care of him and keep him healthy!

NICU

We can’t thank the Wesley NICU enough for saving our son’s life! They did everything they could to get him healthy as soon as they could. All the nurses and doctors were amazing, and we are forever grateful! Thank you for all the prayers and love you have showed up along the way. If you follow me on social media you know about his condition already as I have shared about it.

BUY THE BOOK

If you are wanting to learn more, you can buy this book:CONGENITAL ADRENAL HYPERPLASIA: A Parents’ Guide and it is highly recommended by other parents! I bought it and found it to be very helpful!

Clay Daniel Apley- Born 10/20! Come Meet Our Little Guy!

Clay Apley

Wow it has been awhile since I have blogged! I wanted to get on real quick while Clay is napping to announce he was born on October 20th, at 6:42 pm! It was a bit of a bumpy road getting him here, but he arrived safely! He is such a sweet handsome little guy, and we are so blessed to have him as our son!

I ended up getting induced and everything was going really well, then as the day progressed, Clay starting showing distress and I stopped dilating. I made it to an 8, and I wasn’t progressing. The doctor came in and said we will give it a bit longer but if you don’t progress it is looking like we will have to do a c-section. So, we waited some more and there was no real change. Clay was still showing distress and I was still not progressing. The doctor finally made the call it was time to do a c-section.

I was petrified as having a c-section was a huge fear of mine. But, I had no choice and I wanted Clay to get here safely and I knew I had no other option but to breath deep and go for it. Luckily Adam was able to come in and be by my side. It took quite a bit of medicine to get me numbed up, but it finally worked and we were ready. The procedure went pretty quick, and before we knew it Clay was here! I got nervous cause I didn’t hear him cry at first, I was so scared something was a matter, but then he let out the loudest cry ever. It was such a special moment that I will remember forever! I was able to take a quick look at him, and they got him looked over and then came and laid him on my neck so he could touch a little bit of my skin!

Clay Daniel Apley

Here he is 3 weeks old, holding his head up great! We have had some bumps along the way, he was diagnosed with Salt Wasting CAH, and was in the NICU for almost 1 week. They found this in his newborn screening blood test. It is a life threatening condition and luckily they got him in to the hospital very quick and he is doing better now. He is on meds and will be for the rest of his life. I will do a post about this and what happened here later. I just wanted to let you all get to see him, and finally get to meet the little guy!

Clay

Thank you all for following my pregnancy journey, all the love and prayers you have sent our way! We truly appreciate all of them! I will be getting back to work soon, and can’t wait to share pictures of him, and let you guys see him grow up!

38 Weeks Pregnancy Update – Getting So Close!!!

38 Weeks Pregnancy Update

I can’t believe I am officially 38 weeks! We are getting so very close to meeting our little guy, and I am so ready! Or at least I think I am, haha! I know babies take so much work, and being a first time mom and dad we have to learn how to do things! The best advice I have received, is every parent is once a first time mom or dad, you learn as you go, no one knows it all in the beginning! When I was told that, I loved it instantly! They are so right, so I can’t worry about things I don’t know, and just go with the flow and do the best I can!

So here is my 38 weeks pregnancy update, I hope you all have enjoyed this journey we are on! I can’t wait to share pictures of our little guy when he decides to enter the world!

What happened at Last Dr. Appointment: At my last appointment I got checked and I was dilated to 2 cm and 60% effaced. I ended up getting a flu shot as well (first time ever) to try and keep me healthy the last few weeks and through winter to hopefully keep him safe from getting it. We talked about getting induced, and at this time we are going to hopefully go into labor on our own. If you induce before your body is ready he said there is a 60% chance of getting a c-section, if you go in on your own you only have a 5% chance. But, if I start to go over-due then at that time we need to induce, because it can be harmful to the baby. So, I go Monday to get checked again to see if I have progressed and to ensure he is still doing good!

Size of Baby: This week he is the size of leeks! When I had my ultrasound a few weeks back it showed he already weighed 7lbs 4 oz, but they did say that can be off by a whole pound up or down. They say the farther you get the harder it is to truly know his size. Either way he has been measuring ahead this whole time, so it was good to still see he is on track!

Movement: This little guy loves to wiggle and move around. He has certain times during the day where he is more active than others. If I am up through the night he tends to be up moving around then.

Body and Changes: My belly has dropped, and I am feeling him a lot lower. My hips and pelvic area have been extra tender, and I for sure have been waddling around a ton! I have been getting a lot of cramping and braxton hicks. It has been a rough few weeks for sure, I am just exhausted and not feeling well. I have been getting super nauseated, having major heart burn, not sleeping, and in pain a lot. BUT I know I am so close to being done and soon it will all be over!

Sleep: It depends on the day. Some nights I sleep pretty good and other nights I have insomnia and will be up most of the night. I just never know how that day will go. Taking naps is something I am not good at, I try but can’t ever get to sleep. I just lay there, or get text or phone calls keeping me from sleeping. I have had a few successful days though and those days are nice!

Emotions: Oh boy this has been and up and down event. Some days I just feel super emotional from the moment I wake up! The other day for my appointment I was just a mess, I was having a really hard day, and was super emotional. With all my hormones changing and getting so close they say it is normal to have more extreme emotions. I am really feeling it the past week!

Morning Sickness: It has come back hard core. It never fully went away for me, I have been sick this whole pregnancy, but it had let up some. Now it feels like it did when I was first pregnant, which is hard! You just feel so sick and nauseated non-stop from morning till night some days. I am doing a lot of lounging on the couch for sure, and sipping on ginger ale to help!

Cravings: Anything pumpkin, pumpkin pie, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin, pumpkin, and more pumpkin! I also am loving Apple Cider, Nacho Cheese Bugles, and back to wanting a lot of meat and cheese!

What I Miss: I miss being able to being able to get around normal. I am just hurting and slow at getting around. Thinking of doing a lot of walking some days about makes me want to cry. My body just hurts.

What I Am Looking Forward To: Just being a little family! After this long wait for him over the past nine months, I am just ready to finally meet him and start becoming a family and living life all together doing regular daily things! I can’t wait to hold and love on him! We are more than excited for this new chapter to start!

Next Doctor Appointment: October 12th!

36 Weeks Pregnancy Update

36 Weeks Pregnancy Update

Woohoo, we are getting closer everyday to meeting lil Baby Clay! My sister-in-law and brother-in-law just had their little girl earlier this week, Sterling, and she is beyond precious! It made it that much more real holding her, knowing that in a month or less that will be us holding our little boy!

Not a ton has changed over the past few weeks, but a few new cravings, of course my belly size has grown! Here is my 36 weeks pregnancy update for you all! Thank you for following my journey, and I can’t wait to share pictures of our little guy once he arrives.

Size of Baby: Little guy is the size of romaine lettuce this week. He is still packing on the pounds at a rate of an ounce a day! He should be weighing around 6lbs and is 18 1/2 inches long or so, from what I have read on the baby app!

Movement: He is moving around a good amount. Some days I think he is a bit more tired so the movement is less. You can tell he has grown over the past few weeks by how strong he is moving around in there!

Body and Changes: Energy level is low, they are not kidding when they say third trimester really wears on your body! Belly is growing bigger, and I am pretty sure he has dropped. I noticed my belly has been a bit lower than normal. I asked my sister and husband and they agree. I feel him a lot lower, so I am wondering if he is engaged or not. I am excited to get my ultrasound next week to find out more. I will get my cervix checked for the first time, so I am anxious to hear if I have dilated or effaced at all. I also have a lot of aches and pains in my stomach and pelvic area. I am moving a bit slower these days!

Sleep: It has been a bit of a struggle. I tend to take forever to finally get to sleep, and when I do I am up multiple times going to the bathroom through the night. When I do actually get to sleep, I sleep decent. I wake up when I move just cause my hips and pelvic area hurt a lot.

Emotions: They are hit and miss. Coming up so close to our due date, I find myself thinking about becoming a mom. It is crazy to imagine what our lives will be like, we are very excited to meet him. I get nervous hoping he is perfect and has no troubles once he enters this world. I know he has the two vessel cord and there are complications that could happen, so I just pray he is okay and healthy!

Morning Sickness: Still going on, unfortunately! I have found the past few weeks I have become more nauseated here and there, so that is a bit sad. I have dealt with morning sickness the whole pregnancy, it would have been nice for it to finally go away.

Cravings: Chocolate milk, which is weird cause I am not a big milk fan. Apples is a new one this week as well. I bought some today to munch on. Lastly sausage, I have been craving it a lot. Normally I don’t eat it very often but I just want it all the time!

What I Miss: Not hurting all the time. Just thinking of walking to get groceries or shop is a major task. I am very slow at moving around, I just have a lot of aches and pains. You get so wore out, in such a little time.

What I Am Looking Forward To: Having Clay here, and just enjoying our little family. I can’t wait to do our first family pictures with our little guy. I have dreamed of that for a long time! I am so excited for the day to arrive for him to be here, get to see who he looks like, learn his sweet personality and give him lots of hugs and kisses!

Next Doctor Appointment: September 29th. I have an ultrasound first then doctors appointment right after!
