1. The Whole-Brain Child: 12 Revolutionary Strategies to Nurture Your Child’s Developing Mind – This is one of the top books out there right now for parents. Daniel Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson have created a masterly, reader-friendly guide to helping children grow their emotional intelligence. This brilliant method transforms everyday interactions into valuable brain-shaping moments!
2. Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids – Here is a neat one, Dr. Laura shares authentic advice in keeping control and peace in your home. She talks about taking responsibility for your own emotional state as a parent, and more. It is a great read!

3. No-Drama Discipline: The Whole-Brain Way to Calm the Chaos and Nurture Your Child’s Developing Mind Another major one that parents recommend. Highlighting the fascinating link between a child’s neurological development and the way a parent reacts to misbehavior, No-Drama Discipline provides an effective, compassionate road map for dealing with tantrums, tensions, and tears—without causing a scene.
4. Parenting from the Inside – I love the take on this book, they explore how our childhood shapes the way we parent. I know things that we grow up seeing and doing shape our lives, but it is very interesting to see how much it will impact how you parent as well. \
5.
How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk – Communication is key in all things that pertain to the world. It is interesting to read how to word things so your child will listen, and how to take a step back and listen to your child as well. This is a highly rated and recommended book!

Hope you can enjoy some or all of these books. Like I said, every child is different in the needs and how to work with them. But these might help you to see things differently or new methods to try to show your child love, support and more. Enjoy!

Parenting Doesn’t Have To Be Hard. Read These 9 Tips

parenting tips

I think we all worry now and again if we are raising our kids right, or I at least do! I wanted to share 9 tips on how parenting doesn’t have to be hard, or I should say as hard as we make it out to be at time! Sometimes I find myself worrying if I will mess up our little man, and then I have to sit back, breath deep a few times and remember these things below!

1. Love your Child – This is the most important thing you can give your child. To me a baby can never get enough love from their parents. They need to be told they are loved, each day. Give your child hugs and kisses, if they are still at the age where they allow you to!

2. Speak words of Affirmation– Speaking words of affirmation to your child is so important. They need to know why they are so special, this helps build up their confidence! It is a vital component to build up their emotional development as they grow. Tell your kiddo your proud of them, they did a great job, you love them, grateful God gave you them, they are brave, they are strong, the list truly goes on and on! You can never speak enough positive over your child!

3. Set Limits and Be Consistent With Your Discipline – Sometimes people see discipline as not being a good parent, and being strick, but if you find that balance it is key! If your child doesn’t get disciplined if he/she acts out they will not learn respect for others, and so on. It is important to stick to rules for your home, how they treat others, and follow them. Set limits and do not waiver from the rules. It will help them a lot as they grow up to follow rules, have manners and so on.

4. Make Time For Your Child – So often we get so involved in living in the fast paced world we blink and our children are grown up. Make time for your child. Go to the zoo or a pottery class together. Whatever your child shows interest in, make time and enjoy playing together. If your child is like mine and a baby still, even playing with him on the floor, is so important. It helps you bond and grow closer. Children are children for such a short time, don’t let the opportunities pass you by!

5. Lead by Example- Being a good role model is something you just have to do. Open the door for elders, have manners, give to others, say please and thank you. If they see you being kind to others, they will learn to do the same. I think making sure to help others out when they are in need is really important. It teaches kids to think of others, to show respect and love to other human beings. Our world has become so corrupt I think it is important to teach our kids and follow the same rules of loving one another, and making the right choices in life.

6. Don’t clip your child’s wings – No matter what the age of your child is, make sure to allow your child to gain independence! If your kid wants to put up all the toys in the toy box, or dressing himself, or learning to ride their bike on their own, make sure to allow it to happen! It teaches them responsibility and builds up their self-esteem. As they reach these milestones tell them good job, cheer them on. It goes through even as an adult, you can always find something good to tell them good job on!

7. Make warm memories – Having a child is such a blessing, not everyone is able to experience. So it is important to cherish them! Make sure you are creating memories that they will remember for a lifetime. Whether it is a family tradition around the holidays you do, Tuesday night is make your own pizzas each week, or fun family rituals you do. Just make sure to laugh, play and enjoy your daily life.

8. If you Have a Spouse, Show Affection – If you are married and have a spouse, showing affection between each other is the way your child will learn for their future relationship. Make sure to say I love you, hug each other or give a kiss goodbye. If you are a single parent, that is okay, and props to you! Being a parent is so hard, and I gotta hand it to all the single parents, you are a rockstar!

9. Trust Your Gut – This is last but certainly not least, trust your gut feelings. I remember a few days we brought Clay home, I knew something was wrong with him and we went the the emergency room. The next day we followed up with the doctor, and we got a call saying he had congenital adrenal hyperplasia, and had to stay a whole week in the NICU. So, no matter what if your gut says something is off, follow it! You can’t go wrong.

I hope these help you out, the main point is to love your child, and do the right things in life and lead by example! If you mess up they will forgive you, and tomorrow is always a fresh start.

Products to Baby Proofing The Home – Keep baby safe!

Time to Start Baby Proofing The Home! baby proofing the home

Clay is officially crawling and on the move, and with that comes baby proofing our home to keep our little guy safe! I can’t believe he is crawling everywhere exploring left and right, it feels like it is too soon for him to be doing this! Before we know it he will be up walking everywhere, then I hear we are really in for a treat, haha!

As a first time parent, I knew some of these, and others I have learned as I have went, or had another expert parent share their insight with me! It is crazy all the things you look at everyday and don’t think twice about and now I zone in on every detail ensuring Clay won’t eat it or get hurt!

Make sure to get plugin protectors, latches for cabinets, extension cord holders for wires, and such. Those are for sure the basics of it, below you can shop directly to pick them up!

doorDoor Stops: One thing I wasn’t sure of, was if your home is like ours we have these door stops that are springs. Those white stoppers on the end are a rubber texture, if you pull on them, they pop right off. I went to Facebook to ask some moms what to do, they said super glue the ends on, so they can’t pull off. Now you could go the extra mile and remove these door stops and replace with some newer ones, that are round circles and more baby friendly!

Magnets on The Fridge: If you have magnets on the fridge, make sure it is high enough up, they can’t reach. It is easy for them to reach and grab it and of course it goes right in their mouths!

Rug No-Slip Protector: If you have rugs in your home, you may want this non-slip grip rug protector. You just lay under your rugs to help you from slipping. This is great for laminate or wood floors. Any floor that is slippery! Also wouldn’t hurt to get some non-skid socks
Cleaning Supplies and Medicine: This is one that you all probably know, make sure cleaning supplies are out of reach. Keep them up high or locked tight in a cabinet where the baby can’t reach. I know I have seen a lot of post where babies get into medicine or cleaning supplies and get taken to ER or call poison control. Just make sure they are out of reach.
Decorations and Tables: We had a little table with an old phone on it for decorations. I know with Clay it isn’t safe because the table isn’t very heavy and he could take two pulls on it and the thing would tip right over on him. Look around your house and see if any decorations or little tables could cause a problem like this one could have.
Regalo Easy Step Gate Baby Gates: This one is a beauty in my world. It has saved a lot of time. Clay is crawling everywhere, so I make sure he is blocked off in the living and dining room. I know everything is safe for him, and he can’t get into anything. So we spend most of the day playing in their and the gates help keep him in my site, so he isn’t running into every room in the house.  We bought these, Regalo Easy walk through gates, you have a little handle that opens so you don’t have to step over the gate. It is so handy! You can either add cups to the ends where you screw into the door frame, or use the pressure cups. We are using the pressure cups and they work great.

Hot water heater: Here is one I didn’t ever think about. Make sure to set your water heater under 120 degrees to protect against scalding them. You don’t want them going to wash hands and the water on straight hot and burning their skin.
Door Pinch Guards: This is a good one to buy, door pinch guards, prevents them from shutting or pinching their hand in doors.
I hope some of these help you to get an idea of where to start on baby proofing! Their is so much you can do to your home. I hope this gives you a start on keeping baby safe.

Clay Is 6 Months Old! Here is his 6 month baby update

Easter Picture 2016Clay has turned 6 months on the 20th of last month, so here is his 6 month baby update! Time has flown by, you blink and it feels like I just had him! He has brought such joy to our house, I am very thankful each day for him! When he smiles it just melts your heart, and his sweet kisses and hugs are the absolute best!

So I thought I would share what he has been up to these days!

Clay 6 Months He is now eating baby food, right now green beans, apples and sweet potatoes are his favorite. We still have a lot of them to try out but so far those are his top ones! He loves to giggle and he is such a cheeser! He smiles literally all the time, he is a very happy baby, granted if he gets upset he will let you know!

He sits up so well, I was shocked he has been doing it since around 5 1/2 months. One day he sat up wobbled a bit and then bam he is sitting up all the time! He is trying to crawl, but he hasn’t got it down quite yet! But, it is still early so hopefully soon he will be scooting along!

Clay

This was an Easter photo we took, he is truly such a handsome little guy! I loved his little suspenders and bowtie! I got them off of Etsy! He really looked so handsome! It is crazy he was born with black hair and as he has gotten older, he is like a dirty blonde now. His eyes are a mix of blue and brown right now, not sure if they will stay hazel or go brown!

Sleeping is getting better, I really think his steriods for CAH are not helping in sleeping. He doesn’t sleep through the night, but he only eats like once to twice a night now. Granted he doesn’t sleep straight through, he wakes up sometimes and needs soothed still!

So that is what has been going on in our neck of the woods! He is thriving and doing amazing! We are so blessed and thank you for coming by to see what he has been up to!

Newborn Parenting Advice + Dreft Giveaway #Amazinghood

Some Simple Newborn Parenting Advice from a First Time Mom!

This post and giveaway were made possible by iConnect and Dreft. I was compensated for my participation in this campaign, but all opinions are 100% mine

newborn parenting advice

I am a first time mom, to my sweet little guy Clay! He just turned 6 months old on the 20th of this last month! The first few months were a complete blur from sleep exhaustion and just all the changes that took place. Our little guy spent a whole week in the NICU as he was diagnosed with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, he is a salt waster. It can be life threatening, and we almost lost him. He is now doing extremely well and thriving! We are truly blessed to have this little man in our lives!

I thought it would be fun to share some newborn parenting advice to help all you first time parents out! There were so many things I had to learn along the way, it was crazy!

Tips for First Time Parents

Learn as You Go: I thought reading all the parenting books out there would help me know it all, but there is so much you have to learn as you go. Every child is different so what works for some parents may not work for your baby. So, take a deep breath and you will make it through!!! I promise!

Accept Help: Have you ever heard that saying, it takes a village to raise a child…. that is no joke!! They are a lot of work, especially the first few months. You have all the feedings around the clock, diaper duty, and regular household chores. Accept help from loved ones, it truly will save you! Don’t try and be a hero!

Freeze Meals: This is one I say is a must. You think it only takes a short time to whip up a meal, but when you are holding a newborn and trying to work around naps and feedings you have little to no time. Get some freezer meals ready! It helps so much! I did like lasagna, sausage balls, hot pockets and such. Also if you want buy quick meals that take little to no time.  My little guy made me hold him with every nap, he hated sleeping alone and still does.

Dreft DetergentDreft Detergent: A lot of my niece and nephews suffered from eczema really bad, so that was a big advice tip I received! Buy Dreft for the baby clothes and such! It is the number 1 detergent choice from pediatricians and dermatologist! Their skin is so sensitive, you really have to protect it! As babies grow and develop, laundry needs change for both little ones and their families, which is why Dreft introduced a line of laundry products that are specially designed for different stages of babyhood.

Just Breath: If you are not blessed with a perfectly happy baby non-stop, you might get super overwhelmed at times. I remember days, Clay would  be screaming for hours, as he had colic. I tried everything I found on the web and nothing helped, and I just sobbed. In those moments take a few deep breaths, it will get better and soon he/she will stop crying and it will get better. Or if you feel beyond exhausted, breath because in a few months they won’t eat as often, sleep longer, and you will begin to feel less like a zombie!

Do What You Can: Make sure not to over do it. Having a baby is super hard on your body, and your wore out just from that. Leave the dusting and vacuuming and just rest when you can. Don’t feel everything has to be in tip top shape. People will understand, any parent out there knows how hard it can be.

Zip Up Pajamas: These are my favorite for those late night diaper changes. They are so quick, they beat buttoning up the whole bottom each time. Clay screamed his head off, so being able to unzip and re-zip quickly was a lifesaver!
